Then there are the artists like WIebke Maurer who find themselves drawn to what many would consider to be ordinary items.

Maurer creates intricate tableware art with her interpretation of teacups, saucers, bowls, and flatware.

She creates delicately sculpted tableware that merges form and function that speaks of the past, yet it still offers modern a twist that everyone can appreciate.

Precious Metals Bring Out the Glory of Her Work

Maurer primarily works with silver and gold to create her stunning tableware pieces.

Each item seems impossibly delicate, as if it would crumble at the mere touch of a finger.

Then she enhances the decorative engravings and flair that you see on these pieces to create something that is truly unique.

She uses the concepts of tradition to help create her pieces, but then refuses to stick to it during the finalization of her design.

Maurer says that her creative strategy follows this pattern because she wants to deconstruct “broken objects” instead of restoring them.

When she is successful with this approach, then Maurer says her work reinvents the form and function of each piece.

Maurer currently lives and works in Geolier, Switzerland.

She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam as was invited in 2010 to become the artist in residence at the l’imprimerie in Lausanne.
